FAQ

NEET PG Counselling β€” Common Questions

To appear in NEET PG 2026 you must have: (1) MBBS degree (or equivalent) from an NMC/MCI-recognised institution, (2) Completed 1-year compulsory rotatory residential internship (CRRI) before the counselling starts β€” your internship must be completed by the date specified in the MCC PG schedule (typically June–July), (3) Valid permanent or provisional registration with NMC/MCI or any State Medical Council.

BDS graduates are eligible for MDS counselling. BAMS/BHMS graduates appear for AIAPGET for AYUSH PG. MBBS graduates appearing in NEET PG for the first time in 2026 must have completed internship by the MCC-specified cutoff date.
MD (Doctor of Medicine): 3-year PG degree in non-surgical specialties (General Medicine, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Radiology, Pathology, Psychiatry, etc.).

MS (Master of Surgery): 3-year PG degree in surgical specialties (General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, OBG, etc.).

DNB (Diplomate of National Board): 3-year degree equivalent to MD/MS, conducted at NBE-accredited hospitals (district hospitals, private hospitals) β€” not covered by MCC counselling. Has a separate NEET PG score-based process. Excellent option for good ranks who miss government MD/MS.

Diploma (2-year): Shorter PG programs (DGO, DLO, DMRD etc.) β€” accepted at all MCC rounds. Cutoffs are lower than corresponding MD/MS.

EduTrack advises when to prefer DNB over MD/MS based on your rank and goals.
This is the most critical question in PG counselling and the answer is highly individual. Key factors:

Prefer Specialty if: You have a clear career goal (e.g. surgery, radiology), the specialty has strong practical demand, or college reputation matters less for that field.

Prefer College if: You want a prestigious institution name (AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER, BHU, MAMC), the college offers better infrastructure and training, or the specialty is flexible (e.g. General Medicine has broader applicability).

For top 1,000 AIQ ranks: You can likely get both a top specialty AND a premier college. For mid-range ranks: Often a trade-off β€” EduTrack builds this analysis specifically for your rank, state, and career goals. Do NOT decide without counsellor input.
Many states require doctors who receive subsidised PG seats (state quota government colleges) to complete rural / government service for 1–3 years after finishing their PG degree.

Bond amounts vary by state: Maharashtra: β‚Ή10–20 Lakhs. UP: β‚Ή20–30 Lakhs. Rajasthan: β‚Ή10–25 Lakhs. Karnataka: β‚Ή20 Lakhs. Madhya Pradesh: β‚Ή25 Lakhs. Failure to complete the bond service requires paying this amount.

AIQ seats (15% central quota) do NOT have rural bond obligations at the central level, though some states impose it on state quota seats even via AIQ. Deemed / private colleges have no bond. EduTrack explains the bond policy for every college and state before you finalise your choice.
INI-CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) is a separate exam for PG admission to AIIMS (All India), JIPMER, PGIMER Chandigarh, and NIMHANS Bangalore β€” the premier institutions in India.

Key differences from NEET PG: Separate exam, higher clinical application-based questions, conducted twice a year (May and November), and only covers ~700–900 seats across all INI campuses.

Advantages of INI-CET seats: No rural bond obligation, high stipend (β‚Ή75,000–1,10,000/month), world-class training, and strong alumni networks.

Most students should appear in BOTH NEET PG and INI-CET β€” they are not mutually exclusive. EduTrack guides INI-CET strategy alongside NEET PG.
